The Queen visited Ballater the day before Balmoral’s formal welcome, accompanied by her sister Annabel Elliot, daughter Laura Lopes, granddaughter Eliza and twin grandsons Gus and Harry Lopes. Dressed in jeans, slacks and coats, the group browsed a bookstore and a shop selling Scottish cashmere, emerging with smiles and shopping bags while the teenagers retreated to the car.
