A devastating incident has occurred off the western coast of Tenerife, a popular Canary Islands destination, where a massive wave tragically swept four individuals into the sea, leading to their deaths. A fifth person remains missing. Authorities initially confirmed three fatalities during the rescue efforts.
This heart-wrenching event took place shortly after 4 PM at one of the well-frequented natural pools in Los Gigantes, located in the municipality of Santiago del Teide. At this time, many visitors were enjoying the stunning views from rocky outcrops and swimming in the waters when an unexpectedly large wave crashed, pulling them into the depths beneath. The local emergency services reported that several individuals were taken by the powerful currents.
Among the individuals caught in the wave were believed to be foreign tourists, as noted by the Diario de Avisos. A rescue helicopter was able to recover one person alive but unfortunately retrieved another already deceased from the waters. In total, four deaths have now been confirmed. The initial reports indicated that two men and one woman had lost their lives; one man was 35 years old, and the woman was 55. Sadly, a second woman, although revived and transported to the hospital, succumbed to her injuries later.
