Romance out of the spotlight

After divorcing Matt Lattanzi in 1995, Newton-John began a relationship with Los Angeles cameraman Patrick McDermott. The biography says they did not have a traditional arrangement and were often apart because of Olivia’s touring; friends recalled she confided about problems in the relationship.

The night he went missing

McDermott left on an overnight fishing trip on June 30, 2005, and was due back July 1. He was reported missing on July 11 after failing to attend a family event. His boat, the Freedom, contained a bag of belongings and his car remained at San Pedro’s 22nd Street Marina.
