About the film

In Paper Tiger Johansson plays Hester Pearl, married to Irwin Pearl (Miles Teller). Set in late 1980s New York, the couple’s life is upended when Irwin’s brother Gary, played by Driver, returns and pulls the family into danger involving the Russian mafia. The film premiered May 16 at the Cannes Film Festival.

On-set bonds and past sparks

Johansson described bonding with Teller, calling him unexpectedly tender and recalling he’d send photos asking, “Where’s Hester?” She also reflected on the intensity of Marriage Story, noting they spent days filming brutal fight scenes and that the 2019 film earned Gotham Awards recognition. She laughed about the USDA using their argument audio to scare wolves and said she’s grateful to have worked with Driver, calling him an extraordinary actor she’d make every movie with.
